Our safety management system is an updated look at risk identification and mitigation. It has been developed using FAA and ICAO publications coupled with the input of individuals throughout the industry.
With our growing fleet and ever increasing membership, it became necessary to roll out a fresh look at SMS. Although this system is being freshly implemented, it has been four years in the making. Originating in 2021, PAC’s SMS has gone through several iterations. It is constantly being reassessed and updated by our team of safety officers using member input and safety trends within the club as well as the greater aviation community. The system and, more importantly, the deep safety culture it compliments and helps foster has led to the exemplary safety record of Ponderosa Aero Club.
The system is built upon the tenet of continual improvement. Our hazard and incident reporting form allows our members to report unsafe situations and hazards without the fear of club reprisal and with guaranteed feedback from our safety team. Our risk assessment provides a brief pause before each flight as a means to appraise one’s fitness to fly. Our process is developed and overhauled to provide the least disruption to day to day flying operations while prosecuting unnecessary risk the moment it is identified.
