SUMMARY:PAC Backcountry Ground School
DESCRIPTION:Ponderosa Aero Club’s annual backcountry ground school seminar will follow the Club’s annual meeting.  Starting at 1:00 PM at Independence Indoor Shooting\, the backcountry ground school is required for any Ponderosa Aero Club member who has never attended backcountry ground school and who would like to fly in the backcountry using club aircraft.  This is also a great opportunity for other club members to increase awareness and safety regarding density altitude\, aircraft performance\, and other aspects to mountain flying. \nWe are excited to announce that renowned mountain flying CFI Amy Hoover will be providing this year’s seminar!  With a PhD in educational leadership\, Amy teaches mountain flying at Central Washington University\, she co-founded/owned McCall Mountain Canyon Flying Seminars\, and she has other entrepreneurial endeavors\, including writing Mountain\, Canyon\, and Backcountry Flying along with Dick Williams\, published last year.  Amy even flew for our hangar-mate SP Aircraft in the 1990’s! \nPlan on spending your Saturday afternoon with us on April 25 and help yourself prepare for safe flying in the backcountry in 2020!

SUMMARY:Winter Doldrums Party
DESCRIPTION:Bad weather and short days getting you down?  Snow\, ice\, and gusty winds keeping you grounded?  Come commiserate with us at the winter doldrums party! \nThis fun event evolved from Ponderosa’s annual holiday party several years ago.  Over time\, club members realized that they already attend way too many holiday parties leading up to Christmas and New Year’s Eve.  Plus\, the club could save a little money by scheduling it outside of peak holiday party time. \nCome out and talk about airplanes over your favorite beverage!  Bring your spouse or significant other\, so he or she has someone with which to share non-aviation conversation! \nPlease plan on chipping in $20 per person to help offset the cost of this event. \nRSVP before Feb 19 at 9:00 PM via text message to Sharki Kontra at 714-609-4233 at acesharki@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Treasure Valley Chapter Idaho Aviation Association November Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Agenda: \n5:30 – 6:30pm Social Hour – Burgers and Bratwurst on the BBQ / Beer and Drinks – bring your appetite and thirst and a $5 contribution to offset the food and beverage. \n6:30pm Presentation by Roland Steadham – join us to learn more about backcountry weather and view some of Roland’s exceptional backcountry video production work. \n“Roland has been a meteorologist for 35 years. If fact\, he’s spent half of his career forecasting hurricanes and severe thunderstorms in South Florida. The other half has been spent in the west with most of his time in Utah. His experience ranging from tropical weather to blizzards makes him uniquely qualified to be the Chief Meteorologist for KBOI 2 News. After working from coast to coast\, he and his family have decided that there is no place like the west with Boise being the highlight of his career. Roland is married with six children. He is the son of a Cuban immigrant and proud of his Latin heritage. He also speaks fluent Spanish. When he’s not forecasting the weather he spends much of his time with his head in the clouds. You see\, he’s also a commercial licensed pilot and avid skydiver. He’s logged over 3\,000 hours flying everything from competition aerobatics to twin engine jets and gliders. He also has over 700 skydives under his belt. Roland attended Brigham Young University and the University of Utah. He finished his education through the Mississippi State Meteorology Program. Roland has been awarded both the American Meteorological Society and National Weather Association Seal of Approval.” \nCome out and join us for a little dinner and social time and an interesting and informative presentation. Please RSVP if you can to assist in planning food and drink. \n  \nJohn Davis \nDirector – District 3 \nIdaho Aviation Association \nwww.idahoaviation.com \n208-867-4600 \n

SUMMARY:Exchange of flight controls-PARTY
DESCRIPTION:Friday nov 1 about 4-7 Exchange of flight controls-PARTY \nAt Ponderosa building \nIt’s a big day at Ponderosa– Janna is handing the controls to Dave as general manager of the club. To mark this big day what better excuse to have a party? Come celebrate Janna’s new flying job and Dave’s enthusiasm for the club with pizza\, paper planes\, movie and plane rides. What? Plane rides? \nYeah\, in the spirit of the club a few generous active club members are offering to do short flights to get brand new or inactive club members back in the air. (of course\, good airplane etiquette says you should offer to pay for part of the flight.) Want to go for a flight or offer to fly? Please let us know or write your name on the sign up sheet on the bulletin board in the building. \nDon’t forget\, two days before the party is an enrichment opportunity.\nWhat’s a 100hr inspection anyway?\nWednesday\, October 30th 6pm \nAirframe and Powerplant (A&P\, IA) mechanic Trevor Davidson has been doing much of the work on the club planes for several years. He has offered to do a show and tell for club members to share what a 100 hour inspection require. Why do we do them? Why do they take so long? How can you help the mechanic? What should you squawk when you are renting\n-and more importantly\, when should you not fly an airplane. I hope you can join us at this very informative informal program.  Hopefully we can time the event when an airplane is actually in for a 100hr

SUMMARY:Oshkosh: The Spirit of Aviation
DESCRIPTION:Monday\, July 23 – Sunday\, July 29\, 2018 \nFor 51 weeks a year\, EAA is an international community of more than 200\,000 members that nurtures the spirit of flight through a worldwide network of chapters\, outreach programs\, and other events. \nBut for one week each summer\, EAA members and aviation enthusiasts totaling more than 500\,000 from 80 countries attend EAA AirVenture at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh\, Wisconsin\, where they rekindle friendships and celebrate the past\, present\, and future in the world of flight. \nThe World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration has it all when it comes to aircraft. Warbirds. Vintage. Homebuilts. Ultralights. Some you would normally find in a hangar at your local airport\, others so unique they are the only one of their kind. \nYou name it\, there’s likely an example of it at Oshkosh. \nFor many\, arriving at Oshkosh is a rite of passage that can only be satisfied by being one of the more than 10\,000 aircraft flying in\, landing at what becomes the busiest airport in the world. \nWhether you’re an aviation enthusiast or an aviation novice\, AirVenture has something for you. No matter what your age\, you’ll be entertained\, informed\, and thrilled by the countless activities available that reflect “The Spirit of Aviation” all around. \nDaily air shows. Aerobatics and pyrotechnics. Feature films at the Fly-In Theater. Forums\, workshops\, and demonstrations. KidVenture. Special programming at Theater in the Woods. All of this\, plus much\, much more is included with your daily admission. \nAdd in the crowd-thrilling\, show-stopping Night Air Show on Wednesday and Saturday night\, and you have affordable fun for the entire family every day from sunup to well past sundown. \nThere is uniqueness to each AirVenture that keeps lifelong attendees coming back for more. You need to experience it to understand. \nExperience Oshkosh with us. It doesn’t matter what you see; you just have to see it for yourself.

SUMMARY:Fly-In Hike at Big Southern Butte (U46)
DESCRIPTION:July 4\, 2018 — 8 a.m.\nEveryone is welcome at the annual Big Southern Butte fly-in hike on Independence Day\, July 4. I’m planning to leave IDA about 7 and be at the airstrip at 8 (slow plane). Everyone is welcome\, and showing up is does not obligate you to do the hike. I allow 5 hours for the round trip to the summit on foot; your mileage may vary.  The airstrip is located conveniently to the trail head\, and the hike is 5 miles up with 2500 feet of elevation gain. Walking poles are helpful on the descent on ‘ball-bearing’ gravel. Latest local recon report is that the road is deeply rutted\, which should not affect hikers but may limit the ATV traffic. Let me know if you plan to attend\, and especially if you have an open seat. Remember\, flying with an empty seat is a misdemeanor! \nContact for more information:\nDale Creasap\n208-520-8631
